It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Uche Ojeh, the beloved husband of NBC’s Today show co-host Sheinelle Jones. At just 45 years old, Uche succumbed to glioblastoma, an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer. His death was confirmed on May 23, 2025, during an emotional segment on Today, where colleagues paid tribute to his life and legacy.
Uche and Sheinelle’s enduring love story began at Northwestern University in the late 1990s. Sheinelle, then a freshman, met Uche, a high school senior visiting the campus. Their chance encounter blossomed into a deep connection, leading to marriage in 2007 after eight years of courtship. Together, they built a life centered around love, faith, and family, raising three children: 15-year-old son Kayin and 12-year-old twins, Clara and Uche Jr.
Professionally, Uche was a respected consultant, known for his dedication and integrity. Beyond his career, he was a devoted husband and father, often seen supporting his children’s activities and milestones. His unwavering commitment to his family was evident in every aspect of his life.
In December 2024, Sheinelle took a leave of absence from Today to care for Uche during his illness. She later expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans and colleagues, stating, “Thank you, for all of your love and support. ”
The Today show family honored Uche’s memory with heartfelt tributes. Co-host Savannah Guthrie described him as “an incredible person” and emphasized the deep loss felt by all. Craig Melvin highlighted Uche’s role as a dedicated father, recalling his presence at every soccer game, concert, and recital.
Uche’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of love, strength, and devotion will continue to inspire. As we mourn his loss, we extend our deepest condolences to Sheinelle, their children, and all who were touched by his
